About This Spot

Stepping into Whole Foods Wine Store on Columbus Avenue feels like entering a quietly curated corner of the Upper West Side, where the pace softens just enough to invite thoughtful browsing. The atmosphere balances a warm neighborhood charm with the understated confidence of a well-curated wine bar, making it a welcoming spot whether you’re looking for a thoughtful year-end bottle or simply a new discovery to savor at home.

The lighting is gentle, and the shelves are thoughtfully arranged, encouraging guests to linger and explore at their own rhythm. Staff members move through the space with an easy professionalism that feels personal rather than rushed—ready to guide without pressing, attentive without hovering. This creates an inviting environment where curiosity is met with respect, and questions about varietals or origin are welcomed rather than met with jargon.

What makes this wine bar special is its unassuming inclusivity and sense of community. Visitors often mention the camaraderie they find here, a feeling of being considered family rather than just customers. This human connection—marked by patience and genuine conversations—introduces a quiet kind of joy to the experience, reminding you that wine isn’t just a purchase, but a way to share cultures and moments.

Among the bottles waiting to be explored, you’ll find selections that reflect a thoughtful balance between familiar favorites and unique finds. This isn’t a place that overwhelms with choice but rather invites you to discover the stories behind each bottle. Whether your tastes lean toward domestic labels or the charm of lesser-seen imports, there’s a feeling here that every bottle has been chosen with care and a nod to authentic enjoyment.

Whole Foods Wine Store quietly embodies the spirit of its neighborhood—a place where quality meets kindness, and the love of wine gently unfolds into shared experience. It’s less about the buzz of nightlife and more about those rewarding moments that come with patience, warmth, and authentic connection.

2025 There is a lovely gentleman named Lucas who was very professional, understanding, patient and honest in helping me out today. With the anticipatory anxiety and ambivalence that pending tariffs are causing, I was not sure how to approach my purchases of imported and domestic products. Lucas treated me like family and special pricing incentives make shopping here easier. Bottles were protected appropriately, and he could not have been more dignified in answering my plethora of queries and requests. Thank you again Lucas. Previously, Joe couldn't have been more helpful on one of those gloomy, rainy, damp days when you are not willing to be hustled or pushed around. He is honest, very well versed and attentive to human detail. Thank you Joe.

I’ve had nothing but positive experiences shopping at Whole Foods! As a woman of color, I truly appreciate feeling comfortable and respected in the store without being watched or hovered over. The staff is consistently professional, warm, and helpful, and the food is always fresh and of high quality. A big shoutout to the store manager for creating such an inclusive, welcoming environment. I’m always happy to shop here!

There are bottles here which not usually found in other wine stores. It would be better if they included bottles from other countries like Georgia, Romania, or Turkey.

We're gonna assume by 'food' Google means WINE! So, five stars. While it's fun to visit your wine behind a glass partition, like it's a criminal, sometimes it's nice to walk right up to a bottle and touch it. WFW has a great selection of wine from various regions for every budget. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Not sure if you're going to like it? Ask for a taste! Need a bottle of chilled rosé? There are tons to choose from in the cooler. Need a host gift for a party, but you don't know anything about wine? Just get the coolest looking bottle.
